How is Medical Acupuncture offered by Dr. Kumar different from other Acupuncture procedures offered elsewhere?

The technique adopted by Dr. Kumar is rooted in the tradition of the Japanese style of Acupuncture and is the one taught at Harvard Medical School Acupuncture Training Program. 

​

Japanese Acupuncture depends on the use of fine needles placed at specific points on the body which are discovered by looking for specific responses from other areas of the body, indicating that the point discovered is the right point. Heat or micro currents may be added to these needles to enhance their effectiveness. 

​

Japanese Acupuncture DOES NOT depend on eliciting a painful response at the needle insertion point (Also called "De Qi" response).

​

Japanese Acupuncture DOES NOT depend on Herbs and Herbal supplements for effectiveness.   

​

This is different from most other Acupuncturists who follow the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) technique which depends on needles inserted at prescriptive points and also depend heavily on Herbs and Herbal supplements for their effectiveness. Herbs and Herbal supplements do NOT come under the purview of the FDA and there is no guarantee of their safety. The interactions of these supplements with other medications that you may be on is unpredictable because of lack of data.
